Collings Shop Tour

On Friday Colin and I went on a tour of the Collings Guitar Shop while in Austin for a wedding. It was very interesting to see the process these luthiers (guitar makers, as I learned on the tour) go through to make one guitar.

Colin was really geeking out, along with other Collings fans, about things such as Brazilian rosewood and varnish finish (nerds!).

Every once in a while we'd come across a CJ with Sunburst finish and I'd see a longing in my husband's eyes. For those of you that didn't know, Colin sold that guitar to buy my engagement ring. I think we'd both agree it was a great trade!

Lastly, THE Bill Collings. We didn't get to see him Friday... maybe next time.

We'll definitely have to go on this tour again!... But ONLY if we agree that Colin does not need another guitar before entering. Every guitar player on the tour looked as if they were about to run one of these beautiful instruments out of the building at any moment. Also, I stole all of these pictures from the Collings website as our camera was out of batteries. Hope they don't mind!
